Face it, rim brakes aren’t quite dead, but they have one foot in the grave and a fist clutching at a carton of Marlbro Unfiltereds. They just aren’t long for this world, and we can’t imagine why anyone purchasing a new cross bike would want anything but discs. Since we’re talking wish lists now, let’s make those disc brakes hydraulic, and wouldn’t it be bitchen if the frame and fork were super-light (1150g frame), crazy stiff, made of carbon, and fit tires up to 38mm wide? Add some sweet lookin’ paint and you have the Ibis Hakkalügi Disc.
The Hakkalügi has cross race pedigree in spades with national and world championship wins to its credit. It’s a great race bike, to be sure, but this Disc version is also a gravel grinder, a commuter, with slicker tires it’s a comfortably competitive road racer; the thing just hogs up rough and smooth miles alike… come to think, it might just about be THE perfect all-year Boise bike, if you had to have just the one.
